Empowering girls through character development, health education, and post-secondary planning to create a brighter future.
Titus Woman, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization founded in 2024 by Dr. Mary Beckworth-Belford. Our mission is to Inspire girls to believe in themselves, be change agents, make a lasting Impact in their communities, and help them realize their potential (I'm Power) to create a brighter future for themselves and generations to come. We are committed to nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow, instilling optimism and support in every girl we reach.
Dr. Belford established Titus Woman, Inc. from a mentoring program she created in 2009 called Girls 2 Women to help formerly incarcerated, expelled, and court-involved girls transition back into their schools and communities and prepare them for life after high school. Through her doctoral research, "The Impact of Alternative Education for Reentry Outcomes of Youth Offenders," she found that providing character development, health education, and post-secondary planning improved academic outcomes, increased confidence, and decreased delinquent and risky behaviors among youth. As a result of those findings, the Girls 2 Women mentoring program was offered at alternative schools, summer learning programs in Memphis Shelby County Schools, and charter schools throughout the Greater Memphis area.
The Girls 2 Women mentoring program provided essential life skills to help youth navigate life challenges. The program's outstanding service in assisting girls throughout communities in Memphis has been widely recognized. It has received a Special Congressional Recognition from U. S. Congressman Steve Cohen, a proclamation from former Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell, a Community Service Award from the Memphis Shelby County Commissioners, an Outstanding Community Partner award from A Step Ahead Foundation, and an Eagle Brigade metal from the United States Army for Excellence in supporting students interested in a career in the military as their post-secondary option. These accolades are a testament to our commitment and the positive impact we strive to have on the community. We are proud to continue this work under the Titus Woman, Inc. foundation.
We aim to promote self-discovery, self-love, and self-respect to help girls Conquer their fears and overcome obstacles.
“Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving; we get stronger and more resilient.” —Dr. Steve Maraboli
